Welcome to #MiMenuPlan for the week of September 9th 2012.
What is the #MiMenuPlan all about?
I’m fortunate to be surrounded by some amazing food bloggers. To give back to them for all the incredible work they do, I created a menu plan to satisfy our craving for good, healthy food while making these fantastic recipes part of your family’s meal time. Before you click away at the recipes, please feel free to show these amazing chefs and food bloggers love by commenting or sharing the recipes on their sites. 🙂
To help you get a sense of how I choose the recipes I do, I always keep in mind the following:
- Budget friendly
- Healthy conscious
- Latin inspired
- Picky eater approved
- Quick preparation time
- Easy to moderate skill level
September 10th is National TV Dinner day! TV dinners are great for busy moms like myself but I want to eat healthier and sometimes those frozen meals contain certain ingredients I’m not too crazy about. This week I rounded up some TV dinner inspired recipes for you. I’ve got a twist to the classics like, macaroni and cheese, pot pie, pizza and even burritos!
“TV Dinners were introduced as television sales were skyrocketing. Before the War Production Board halted manufacture in April 1942, a mere 8,000 television sets were made in the U.S. After the war ended, a combination of war-related technological advances, the expansion of television networks and the drop in prices due to mass production enabled the television set to replace the radio as the source for daily family entertainment and news.” – The Nibble
Monday – When I hear the words, mac-n-cheese, I think comfort, warmth and lots of cheese! This healthy macaroni and cheese recipe by Martha Stewart doesn’t only bring a nostalgic feel to the famous comfort food dish, it has veggies in it too! I think this recipe is great because you can sneak in the squash and deliver a dish your whole family will love. TV dinner mac-n-cheese never tasted this good!
Tuesday – Tuesdays are usually Taco Tuesdays but I hardly see frozen tacos in the freezer section of my supermarket. It’s usually burritos that I spot. I cringe every single time I see them! An authentic and savory meal should be made fresh and served right off the pan. That’s why I’m sharing Nicole’s recipe for burritos. Those babies will make you drool!
Wednesday – Ever thought about making your own pizza at home? I’ve done it and I love it. It’s super fun to get your hands in this recipe. Of course, my kid helps out with the preparation of this meal. 🙂 Skip the frozen pizza and try this simple homemade pizza recipe. Remember, the toppings are up to you!
Thursday – This fish stick recipe isn’t only easy but it’s accompanied by a killer dipping sauce. Try this fish stick with chipotle sauce recipe. They’re light, crunchy and hit the spot.
Friday (Pot pie) – Pot pie is an all American dish, no? My family loves pot pie. What’s not to love about a dish with a crust? LOL But wait, it gets better. Start your weekend off right by trying this very inviting beef pot pie by Liz of Thoughts of a Mommy. You’re taste-buds will thank you! Yum!
