Five Fabulous Tips For A Great Memorial Day Weekend

May 23, 2011 1 Comment »

Memorial Day weekend is approaching and our family is getting ready for a mini celebration and a reason to have  fun outdoors!  What is the first thing you think of when you imagine family, food, and the outdoors?   A barbecue right?  Family barbeque’s are a summer must in our family. We prepare the menu around whatever is on sale at the butcher, invite the guests, and make sure our play-list includes lots of salsa music! Nothing is better than family time, great food, and 3-day weekends. Don’t you agree?

The fresh aroma of the frill is like summertime aromatherapy.  My family loves to sit around, lay back, and let the white clouds fly by.  The crackling, sizzling, and smokiness of the meat and veggies on the grill are what brings our family together.  Nothing spells summer better than bringing it in with a sweet Memorial Day weekend around a delicious outdoor meal.

I thought I’d share with you some of my barbecuing tips for weekends as special as this one:

Tip # 1 – Be An Early Bird

If you’re planning on having a barbecue in a public area, such as the beach or park, be sure to get there bright and early.  Most public recreational spaces fill up quickly. Don’t get caught without place to set-up your party.  Keep in mind travel time too.

Tip # 2 – The Menu

Think of lean proteins, starches, and bright veggies. You don’t have to go crazy with lots of different menu items just stick to the basics.   Visit the Moments of May website for great recipes ideas.

Tip # 3 – Disposable Cutlery

When the fun comes to a close you clean-up time is close at hand. Give yourself a break and purchase disposable, biodegradable cutlery items to make clean up a cinch!

Tip # 4 – Fun and Games

A portable music player, a soccer or volley ball, and children’s toys are always smart to take a long with you.  Moments of May offers some fun puzzles to keep your family busy too.

Tip # 5  – Stay Safe

Being outdoors means you need to protect yourself from the sun.  Be sure to pack sunscreen for you and your family. A first-aid kit should also always be around in case of a boo-boo.
