A recent survey of 600 women revealed that in a day and age of green-this and eco-that, there is even more pressure to be environmentally conscious than ever before. Do you agree? I do. As a busy working mom, living in New York City, life can be full of pressures. This day in age there is pressure to be fit and healthy, to keep your house spotless and to be the perfect employee at work. Things can get hectic but being environmentally conscious shouldn’t be. Raise your hand if you’re with me on this! 🙂
I, and 93% of women feel that being environmentally friendly should be accessible to everyone. Being green should be easy to follow and come to us like second nature. I find it too stressful to carry the weight and guilt of our ozone layer and global warming on my shoulders. I have to be practical. I started small, like doing away with bottled water by using refillable water bottles and reusing items whenever possible. For me, small green habits stick! Those little things count a great deal, believe it or not. Being green isn’t the latest fad but a way of life. When did green become so extreme? I applaud simple acts of green-ness, like using hard working plant-based cleaners powered by The Clorox Company. Find more information about GreenWorks here.
Here are some eco-friendly habits that are easy to do without even thinking about it:
- Recycle whenever possible. My apartment complex requires us to keep glass, cardboard/paper and plastic in separate containers.
- Take public transportation or carpool to work whenever possible. The air will thank you.
- Purchase fresh, locally-grown food (here is a list of NYC Farmers Markets)
- Use recyclable bags when grocery shopping. Some grocery stores actually give you a little discount for being green.
- Don’t litter. Use trash respectables (There is nothing more annoying than a litter bug.)
- Turn off the lights after leaving a room.
- Unplug appliances if not in use.
- Report leaks
