I am not one to make New Year’s resolutions. I find that if I make rigid resolutions for myself and my family, we set ourselves up for failure. Providing a healthy and happy lifestyle can be challenging at times, especially if you’re always on the go. These two areas of my life, health and happiness, are of the utmost importance to me and the ones that need constant refinement and improvement. With a brand new year in front of me, I have new strengths and a “clean slate” if you may, to become a better me.
Now 2012 is already underway and I’m beginning to have a really good feeling about it. I’m a realistic person and I know the only way I can be a better me is if I act on the goals I make for myself and follow through each and every one of them. One way or another we will own 2012. Let’s do it! Con ganas (with much eagerness)!
Resolutions Goals for 2012
Live a Healthier Life. Eat well. Exercise. We all have habits we wish we never learned. Being a food loving Latina can be a blessing and a curse. Cooking is an integral part of not only my life, but my family’s life. They eat whatever I make for them and so I try to cook as healthy and colorful as possible. The power is in my hands (literally)! It’s hard but I’ve swapped a few things in my cupboards in the past year. I now use fresh herbs for more flavor, fresh veggies for texture, and practice portion control by simply measuring with my eyes what exactly goes on each plate. Soda went bye bye and now we drink more water. Little changes make a huge difference in your health and your life.
You have to start somewhere. Whether it’s 15 minutes in the morning before you shower or a 15 minute walk after dinner. A brisk walk, a light jog, or even a good stretch is great for your body. Encourage your family to workout with you. If I can do it, you can too.
Positivity is contagious but so is negativity so try to surround yourself with people who build, create, inspire and support you. Cut those that suck the life out of you! Again, not an easy decision to make at times but we can do anything slowly but surely.
