“At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The above quote is very dear to me because it resonates something so powerful. Love. I’m one who stands for love, compassion, and non-violence. Bullying falls into that category of non-violence, compassion, and love because it is something very prevalent in our lives as children and adults. Being ridiculed or discriminized because we’re different happens too often in our lives. I’ve shared my story of being bullied in middle school with you guys before. I even participated in this incredible ongoing project by JD Urban where I spoke about bullies and why I think bullies bully others. At the end of the day, I have a little girl who I always worry might one day have to face a bully. Scary thought but I know if I give her the tools, the knowledge to be able to come out of that situation stronger than ever before.
When I received an invitation from MamaDramaNY to see FRECKLEFACE THE MUSICAL, the off-Broadway family musical hit based on the best-selling children’s book “Freckleface Strawberry” by Julianne Moore, I was so excited. I had the opportunity to open up a new lesson for my little one. A fun, fast, and exciting way of bringing knowledge and encouragement to my daughter is very important to me and so this musical was amazing.
I laughed and really had heartfelt moments during the show because I’ve been there before. Watching my daughter’s face light up with the highs and lows of Freckle Face Strawberry, the cast and its message was truly special.
It’s so important to teach my little one the true meaning of love, acceptance, and loving the skin you’re in. Each and every one of us are unique and we need to celebrate that each and every day!
We LOVED the show. I hope you get to see it too. ** Use code MAMADRAMA at the box office or on line for $40 tickets! **
