Thanks to Latina Bloggers Connect I was reminded of the day my family and I celebrated El Día del Niño Translation: Children’s Day in a very special way.
Children’s Day is an event that is celebrated around the world on various days, including many Latin American countries. In Mexico, El Día del Niño is a traditional holiday celebrated on April 30th. The day is an annual celebration that recognizes the important role of children in society.
Let’s go back to the time I was about 9 years old. Our church took part in a community parade celebrating El Día del Niño and I, amongst all the other children, was chosen to be the center of the float. My mom dressed me in a beautiful dress and prepared me for my “role”. Everyone made me feel so special.
“Mamita, solamente tienes que sonreir y saludar a la gente.” Translation: “Honey, all you have to do is smile and wave.”
O.K. Smile and wave. Smile and wave. Simple right? As soon as I stepped onto the float I felt a wave of nervousness and I would not wave or smile. How embarrassing, I thought to myself. I was as stiff as a board! Thanks to my mom who grabbed my arm and waved my hand for me! The memories come rushing in as I write this very post and I remember as soon as I stepped off the float I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t do it, wishing I did.
Now that I think of it… maybe I did not have breakfast that morning. 🙂
Let’s prepare our children before they head out the door by giving them a complete breakfast.
Thankfully, Kellogg´s strongly believes in the power of breakfast.
Kellogg´s is currently giving moms and their kids an opportunity to celebrate El Día del Niño with a free trip to the movies.
- Buy any three Kellogg cereals (8.7 oz or larger) or EGGO Waffles (6 count or larger) and receive a free kids movie pass (up to $7.50 value) with mail-in official order form.
- The order form can be found on special packages of Frosted Flakes and Cocoa Krispies. Tear Pads are also available in the cereal aisle or from an EGGO freezer cling.
Stand alongside me and avoid the chances of your child having an incident like mine by providing them with a complete breakfast with the help of Kellog’s!
Disclosure: I am participating in a blogging program from the Kellogg Company and Latina Bloggers Connect, and this post makes you eligible to win a $35 payment. Aside from being a member of the Latina Bloggers Connect program, I am and have always been a strong believer in starting our day with a complete breakfast. We personally love Eggo waffles. All opinions are my own.
