After losing 25lbs. last year I released a healthier, stronger, and happier me. Losing weight is one thing but being able to get healthy is another. As the main cook in my family, I laid out healthy meals not only for me but for them too. Why should I be the only one to experience healthy food and snacks. So in a nice way, I made them eat good too!
Breakfast at our house pays more attention to energy packed foods. Oatmeal, multi-grain breads, eggs, peanut butter, fruits such as apples and berries and low-fat yogurt. These are foods that are not only delicious and easy to prepare but also promote long-lasting energy, (or at least till lunch time).
For lunch and dinner I traded in the fryer for the grill iron. I also choose to bake my proteins rather than frying. I make veggies tastier but sauteing them in extra virgin olive oil and garlic. The veggies are still healthy but just full of flavor. Or I sometimes mask them (for my 6 year old) in soups or casseroles. She never knows the difference.
Snack time can be tricky, especially with children. There are so many sugar filled snacks out there that do more harm than good. Keeping it simple and fun is what gets us through. I let my 6 year old create her own fruit smoothies and parfaits. She loves giving me a hand in the kitchen so that is never a problem.
But what if you are not home and are on the go. How could you stay on track with the healthy steps you have taken at home. Being an ‘on the go’ person, which many of us are, sometimes leads to unhealthy food choices but thanks to McDonald’s their new breakfast item The Fruit and Maple Oatmeal you can stay on track!
McDonald’s new Fruit & Maple Oatmeal is less than 300 calories, has 32 grams of 100% whole grains, and has about a half-cup of fruit (fresh apples two different types of raisins, and dried cranberries)! YUM!
I’ve had the opportunity of having a delectable bowl while I was ‘on the go’ and its simply delicious. The sweetness of the fruit and raisins along with the tartness of the dried cranberries compliments the rich and hearty oatmeal in each and every warm bite. Its filling and scrumptious. Each serving is prepared on the spot upon request. You can have it with or without brown sugar.
After a bowl of the McDonald’s new Fruit & Maple Oatmeal you will be ready to take on the day and say bring it on!
What tips and tricks do you have to keep you and your family healthy at home and ‘on the go’?
